The Ipogeo dei Cristallini at the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt

i colori della medusa al liebeghaus di francoforte 01

The true colors of Ancient Greece have come back to life, thanks to the revolutionary research of Vinzenz and Ulrike Koch-Brinkmann

For over 40 years, their work has uncovered the vibrant pigments that once adorned ancient sculptures, completely reshaping our understanding of classical art and culture. Their research challenges the long-held perception of the classical world as white and pristine—an aesthetic reinforced throughout history, from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism, and even still today.

This perception is now being replaced by a richer, more accurate vision of the ancient world—one full of color and life.
This revolutionary approach reveals the authentic visual narrative of antiquity, inviting us to see the ancient world as it truly was—alive, expressive, and deeply human.

We are truly honored to collaborate with Vinzenz and Ulrike on the reconstruction of the polychrome sculpture of Medusa from the Ipogeo dei Cristallini. Seeing their remarkable work in person for the first time during our visit at Liebieghaus Museum in Frankfurt was an incredibly moving and inspiring experience. Every day we learn something new from their work, as this ongoing journey continues to reveal just how much there is still to discover about the art of the ancient world.
